Vacation journaling: Our trip to Arizona, Part 1

A few weeks back we did a family trip to Arizona.  After the polar vortex winter here in Michigan, we desperately needed some warm weather.  I'm going to do a little online journaling about our trip -- partially to share, partially to record our trip before it fades from my memory.

We arrived in Phoenix, Arizona on Easter Sunday in the early evening, but we still had another leg in our journey -- a drive to Sedona (about 2 hours) -- before we arrived at our resort.

We had planned to visit a local restaurant in Phoenix for dinner that we found on Drive-ins, Diners and Dives (our favorite source of local food flair).  However, we arrived at the restaurant -- a family-owned Mexican restaurant -- and it was closed for Easter (duh... should have realized that!).  Anyway, we ended up at a Jack In The Box -- a fast food place that we had never visited; so we got a new experience, even if it was only fast food. Then we continued onto Sedona.  We arrived at the Enchantment Resort after dark, and couldn't see much of the landscape.  However, we quickly realized that the resort was a great pick.  We started with a friendly tour of the resort by one of the staff, and he took the kids and myself in a golf cart over to our room.

We awoke the next morning to one of the most beautiful places on Earth.  The view out the door of our hotel was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

A view from the resort

My eager family ready for breakfast.

Just outside of the resort grounds is a public forest/park.  We could access an easy (kid-friendly) trail for a short hike right from the resort.

A view of our hike.  Yes, the soil is that red.

Do you see the lizard? (Center, on the log.  He is partially shaded)

Another lizard (center, a bit from the bottom).

Another creature -- he has stripes (center, a little to the right).

Yes, this was the view from the resort!
After our hike in the morning, we headed into downtown Sedona.  More to come!
