What's a working mom to do during the summer with two crazy kids? Send them to day camp! Some days I wish I could skip out on work and head on over to day camp!
For the last 4 summers, my daughter has attended a day camp near our house. My son has been there for the past 2 summers. Preschoolers to tweens can go to day camp at a fully operating farm with horse, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits and more!
The preschoolers spend most of the day in the air-conditioned preschool, but get two wagon-rides a day, back and forth to the farm. Once a week they get to eat lunch back at the farm. Every afternoon after rest time, the teachers put out the sprinkers for some water fun.
The school-aged kids get to hang out at the farm all day. Ride horses, feed the pigs and goats, do archery, do crafts and shoot BB guns. Man, I'm jealous. And, they have the option of going swimming at the local township indoor pool 4 days a week! The fifth day is for a field trip -- usually skating, or a movie, or bowling.
Every week has a theme, too. Last week was circus week. This week is patriotic. They even have a talent show later in the summer.
So, when I get those sad eyes from yet another judgemental person when I say I'm a working mom, I just have to remember how much fun my kids are having at day camp.
Don't you want to go, too?
