WMW: Geek mom organization

Another Wednesday, another question from Work, Wife, Mom... Life!

This week, I've decided to answer... (drum roll please...)

#1. Favorite recipe, organizational tip, or money saving tip!

This organizational tip is brought to you by Google Calendar.
Schedules gone wild!

Moms, especially us working moms, are constantly having to organize schedules.  Kids school schedules, doctor's appointments, business trips, dance class, soccer games, etc., etc.  And, of course, we also have a husband who has to work late, or wants to hang out with his buddies, or golf, or get his haircut or blah, blah, blah.  Sometimes, I felt like my husband and I did more scheduling coordinations than actually having conversations!
Enter Google calendar

We needed a solution.
  1. We each have our own Google calendar.
  2. We each enter in any dates, events, or important To Do's as soon as we know about them.
  3. We share each other's calendar so that we can see all family events at all times!
Voila! Nobody can say "you didn't tell me about that!"  If a spouse tries to fein ignorance -- the Google calendar is the Bible!

Additional features

My husband is also obsessed with his smart phone, and does a sophisicated sync between Google calendar, his phone, and Outlook.  But, I'll leave that to the phone obsessed.  I do check the calendar from my Blackberry, but no fancy syncing.

I have GOT to incorporate the Google calendar into our lives. We talk about it all the time, we seriously have to do it.

I am in love with Google Calendar, and my kids don't even do anything to warrant a calendar yet. I have a meal plan calendar, work calendar and home calendar, all mixed into one happy calendar. :)

This made me laugh, I have various calendars for various jobs/people including Wookie. I asked him "Should I share my calendar with you?" his reply was "if you like but I'm only going to look when you tell me to" so I've not bothered. We have a written family one and that is the bible too ;)
